For M&B, their engagement session looked like a sunset walk in their closest waterfront park in Williamsburg, a quick stop in their apartment for a snap with their doggo, and a subway ride to their favorite diner.

All the faces of New York City

All of my favorite NYC sessions have a bit of everything: some frolicking in the park, crossing bustling streets, a favorite spot or two, and of course a subway ride. This session was no exception.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn: Overrated? Probably. Gorgeous? Yes.

Williamsburg is one of the best places to get that previously mentioned hodgepodge of city vibes. M&B met me at their neighborhood park – just one of many Williamsburg spots that get you a view of the sun setting over the Manhattan skyline. Aside from gorgeous views, I love a park for the space to move around. Running and dancing around in the grass is something you could do on a city sidewalk, but you’d probably get a lot of annoyed fast walkers rushing past you. Plus, it adds some greenery to the gallery.

Subway ride

This session was back in late summer (or early fall?) when the sun set on the later side. So, by the time we finished up in the park and made a quick stop at their apartment to change outfits and snap a photo with the pup, rush hour was over and we were able to get some sweet shots on the subway.

Photos at Kellogg’s Diner

A popular Brooklyn spot, and for good reason. Kellogg’s is so cute (and delicious!) not to mention kind and accommodating when I reached out in advance for permission to shoot in one of their cozy booths. We did learn after arriving and taking a few photos that flash is not allowed. But we were still able to get some amazing shots despite it being dark out!

Some of my favorite photos in M&B’s gallery were taken at Kellogg’s. I’m so glad they suggested it as one of their favorite date spots!

Final thoughts

My best work comes from having time. Time to move, time to loosen up, time to get to know you and your partner. Time to observe you in your favorite place, to take in your city. Having the time to move from place to place also helps tell the story, in this case in the form of a date night.
