I had SO MUCH FUN shooting in Timothy Westbrook’s studio during NYBFW last month. He takes repurposed materials and turns them into stunning, non-traditional bridal wear. I’m obsessed.
I got together with this dream team at the end of New York Bridal Fashion Week to capture something different. We wanted to encapsulate joy and imperfection, and center all the ways you can choose NOT to follow bridal traditions, sustainability being a big one. These pieces from Timothy Westbrook are all made from upcycled materials. The gown with the giant bow? That bow is made of woven plastic bags.
We also used fun, random props throughout the shoot like toy cars, old iPhones, bubbles, and this 19th century silver rattle. Absurdity was the name of the game. We wanted to elicit smiles and giggles, and remind the audience of this photo set to not take themselves too seriously. In these political times where things… aren’t great, we wanted to show that life and personality persist.
I also loooove the use of color in this collection, and PANTS. Y’all – you can still dress up, feel stunning and true to yourself, and have fun with a bridal look that isn’t a skirt.
Look at the fun art we created!
