A&M gathered their friends and family in late September to celebrate their wedding atop this unique rooftop venue within the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Think elevated backyard wedding, with a twist of course: you’re on a rooftop farm surrounded by flowers, butterflies and bees with views of the Manhattan skyline.
After meeting A&M for their engagement session last year, I had no doubt from their personalities and style that they would have a cool wedding. While bringing in sweet & intimate touches like getting ready together, two long tables with a family style dinner, and handmade invites & favors from their loved ones, the venue also brought that trendy New York touch.
After getting ready together in their apartment, I met the couple at the venue for some sweet pre-ceremony portraits and a few quiet moments with their families before guests began to arrive.
In a slight twist from a standard wedding day timeline, guests arrived to a pre-ceremony cocktail hour. It was so special for everyone to mingle before the festivities began! The kids played with chalk and bubbles while adults grabbed a custom cocktail/mocktail and chatted ’til the ceremony.
The ceremony was so personal, from the couple’s close friend officiating and other pals & loved ones holding the chuppah, to their sweet vows that had us all giggling, to the Jewish tradition of the breaking of the glass at the end.
Then after the ceremony, everyone was invited to sit for dinner while the couple went to the venue’s Root Cellar to sign their marriage license and ketubah, and share a quick toast before heading up to enter dinner.
Underneath the outdoor structure’s string lights, everyone enjoyed a family style dinner and some sweet toasts from parents and friends.
After a first dance, of course, we dove right into the hora and then to a non-stop dance party ’til the end of the night. It was such a fun crowd, and I just know their afterparty at Ginger’s Bar was epic.
If you’re looking for a unique outdoor venue in Brooklyn with views and style, consider Brooklyn Grange! While it can be a little intimidating getting there since it’s within the Navy Yard, A&M’s coordinator sent along thorough directions and instructions for driving, public transit, and ride share. I recommend allotting extra time if you’re working or attending a wedding here. But wow, was it worth it!
