Abby & Mike hosted an intimate backyard wedding in Hyannis, Massachusetts on a rainy May day.
With an original plan of saying ‘I do’ at Dennis, MA’s Mayflower Beach, these two made a week-of decision to move their ceremony to the beautiful waterfront backyard where their cocktail hour was set to take place, and it was absolutely perfect. Although logistics and a rainy forecast were the ultimate factors that resulted in this decision, it ended up being the most lovely day.
After getting ready with friends and family, A & M met in the courtyard of their hotel for a sweet, private first look. Y’all, I’ve seen some pretty boring hotel properties over the years, but this one was stunning and the pink florals made for a perfect, dreamy spot to catch their first glimpse of each other away from prying eyes.
As intimidating storm clouds rolled in, we rushed to the backyard to try and beat the storm with their vows and ring exchange. It did start to drizzle near the end, but that made it all the more special, in my opinion. I love the rain, and they say it’s good luck…
With the rain set to persist for another hour or so, we rushed inside for a champagne toast, some sweet words from loved ones, and the cutting of the cake.
Finally, as we were getting ready to head out to the restaurant for dinner, the sun came out and A & M enjoyed a first dance in the backyard while everyone came to bask in the sun. It was the perfect end to a perfect afternoon!
At the end of their first dance, they invited everyone else to join in. So sweet!
Let this be your sign that you can have the intimate backyard gathering of your dreams, with as few or as many wedding traditions as you’re into!
